For the last event of the year we decided to give back to the community, spread some holiday cheer, and of course find a way to work in an ugly sweater theme. What we came up with was Ugly Sweater, Good Vibes - a visit to a senior living facility where we created holiday cards, painting nails, and did karaoke and caroling lead by co-host Stefani Vara.
Stefani Vara is a singer, model, entrepreneur, and has even been named by Hispanic Lifestyle as the 2015 Latina of Influence. An all around powerhouse, we were so excited to work with her for such a great cause. Throughout the years MsIndependent has participated in a variety of activities that vary from building homes with Habitat for Humanity, to delivering turkeys to the less fortunate at Thanksgiving, but serving seniors is something near and dear to my heart. When I heard that Stephanie was looking for an opportunity to serve during the holidays, I knew we needed to collaborate.
A big hit at the event was the card making table. A few years ago I attended a Christmas card making class at Paper Source, and I've been making my holiday cards ever since. Our crafters had never seen some of the stickers and tools that we used to make the cards, which made the experience that much more exciting. As the ladies played with glitter and decorative paper, Stefani serenaded us with holiday songs, and one of the male seniors got in on the fun and sung "My Way", by Frank Sinatra.
Ladies that participated in sharing their Saturday with the seniors also brought gifts to be donated. We can't say thank you enough for your generosity in giving of yourselves, and gifts to these very deserving elders. Everyone we met that day reminded me of family, and like family, I would want someone to show them the same kindness that we showed that day.
Thank you to everyone that joined Stefani and I for this event, and thank you all for your support of MsIndependent over the past 7 years. Merry Christmas to all, and may you have plenty of good vibes for the new year.
