If you're new to Galentine's Day, the holiday born from a comedic sitcom ( Parks and Rec), don't worry you're not alone. The concept is simple. Put the love of good girlfriends (thus the gal in Galentine's ) with the holiday all about love, and you have a day that recognizes the single girl without the sad sounding ( and overlooked) Single Awareness Day. So for this year's Galentine's Day I decided to treat the ladies of MsIndependent to a quick trip to Italy, also know as Fellini Caffè.
The event was called, That's Amore: A Galentines Day event, featuring dessert making, Italian fare, wine, and of course good girlfriends. The cafe offers authentic and incredible Italian coffee drinks, gelatos, paninis, and salads, along with an assortment of wines, beers and Italian spritz cocktails with shared plates. This is one of my favorite and frequent stops anytime I am in CITYCENTRE, so it's only natural that I create an event centered around treating yo' self, at one of my favorite places to be treated.
Fellini doesn't typically offer dessert making as an activity, so everything offered to us was customized and a first for everyone involved. I was more than pleasantly surprised when I walked upstairs to the area designated for our party. There was a gorgeous assortment of Italian appetizers that I had never actually seen offered at the cafe.
As if the impressive assortment of Italian fare wasn't enough, the table where we would be creating our desserts was to die for. Colorfully displayed were 3 options of cream fillings, fruit toppings, sprinkles, and nuts. To add a special touch of amore, they even sprinkled the table with red rose petals.
Philippe our host for the evening gave us the run down on the ingredients we would be using, and what makes the desserts authentically Italian. Not pictured here is Salvatore, owner of Fellini Caffè who co-hosted the event. He greeted the ladies with a great big smile, offering wine, showing the ladies upstairs, and truly added to the overall experience and enjoyment of the event.
Here are just a few of the finished products. Most of our desserts didn't make it long enough to be photographed. After a few glasses of wine, savory delights, and some much needed girl talk, we had no shame in getting our hands covered in powdered sugar, chocolate, or buttercream frosting.
As if the evening weren't special enough were surprised with complimentary coffee poured over gelato to finish off the event. We were also given to go containers with even more rose petals.
I think I speak for all the ladies when I say that we had a positively decadent evening that we will always remember. Everything was superb - the food, the wine, the hospitality from the Fellini staff, and the care and consideration woven into every detail of the evening. Thank you to all the ladies that joined us for That's Amore, and thank you to Fellini Caffè for filling the evening with so much love.
