Fun fact about Erin - I don't like wearing makeup and seldom do. I'll apply mascara, eye shadow, and lipstick when attending events or photos shoots, but the rest of the time I prefer a naked face. My first encounter with cosmetics came my senior year of high school as I naively applied a foundation that was 6 shades too dark, but was accessible in the "left over" pile of cosmetics the theater department kept for emergencies. I looked like an Umpa-Lumpa with a white neck, and because no one had the courage to tell me, I wore that look at every performance. I never learned how to apply makeup, and never developed an interest in cosmetics, so I gave most of my focus to keeping my skin clear.

Fast forward to now I'm 33, still not a fan of cosmetics, I have very sensitive skin, and an allergy to fragrances. I have had sneezing fits in the shower from added perfumes in soaps, and had my eyes burn so badly that I had to leave the bathroom entirely before I could open them again. After that episode I switched to all natural products and had an allergic reaction to a face mask that made me break out in a rash, followed by scaly skin for weeks. Obviously these experiences have made me less inclined to experiment with new soaps and skincare products, but at the recommendation of a friend I decided to try Source Vital Apothecary.

The origins of Source Vital Apothecary was born in a spa. Almost 30 years ago husband and wife team Jerry and Brea owned a day spa and were so dissatisfied with their options in skin care lines, that they decided to create their own. Today their specially formulated products are made with only the highest standard quality plant based ingredients, totally free of synthetics, harsh chemicals, toxins, or pharmaceuticals. Here are just a few of their natural facial products that I sampled.

Algae Deep Scrub: deep pore facial cleanser formulated from seaweed, botanical, and essentials oils

Lavender Cleanser: a gentle botanical cleanser infused with lavender and aloe vera

Night Repair Cream: A natural, ultra-moisturizing cream to improve appearance of aging and dry skin. Made with shea, aloe, and essential oils

Micellar Cleansing Water: Natural botanical facial wash, moisturizer, and makeup remover. Includes cucumber extract & lavandin essential oil.

My Own Personalized Facial Cocktail

These are the core products that I used on a consistent basis. I would use the lavender cleanser followed by the hydrating facial cocktail daily, and use the algae deep scrub every 2 to 3 days. Although I loved every single product I have to say the facial cocktail is my new favorite thing. I enjoyed the velvety smooth feel that came over my face after using my personalized facial cocktail. The aromatherapy fragrances also made me "feel" like I had freshly cleansed skin.

I'm wearing minimal makeup in all of these pics. I typically wear eye shadow, lip gloss or lipstick, and maybe concealer as needed, so keeping my skin clear is a must. My face stays pretty free and clear but trying new products tends to throw things out of wack and cause dryness, skin cracking around my nose and mouth, or mild irritation. With Source Vital I had no negative side effects, redness, or break outs. My skin was also surprisingly more hydrated than normal. I'm not the best at remembering to apply moisturizers, so it helps to have cleansers that hydrate the skin as well.

I am totally sold on all of these products and will forever be coming back for the Customized Facial Cocktail and the  Micellar Cleansing Water. The facial cocktail left a velvety finish and I loved the aroma. I don't think my face feels quite the same now without using it. The cleansing water did a fantastic job of removing makeup, but I also used it as a cleanser on those late nights when I was too tired to wash my face. I highly recommend you give Source Vital Apothecary a try, and at the very least get your own customized facial cocktail. Cheers!
