This Thursday MsIndependent celebrates 8 years of bringing the women of Houston creative meetups and events! I think with every event that I host I stand back in awe with everyone else in pure amazement at how ideas morph from "what ifs" and scribbles on paper - to a room full of music, color, excitement, and dozens of women I have never met, but feel privileged to encounter. No event represents this beautiful transformation more than our signature event #GirlsNightOut. Two weeks ago the 5th installment in the #GirlsNightOut Series took place with an Avant-Garde theme. If you were there here is what you saw, and if you weren't here is what you missed.

The initial theme for #GNO was going to be bubbles, inspired by the organic balloon trend that you can see on the right. I had no idea what or who I wanted for the event, but I knew that I had to have those balloons! Eventually I became even more inspired by the art walls around the city and thought it would be more fitting to feature art in all its forms at the event, and spotlight local Houston creatives like the ladies of Big Ass Balloons - our balloon designers for the event.

Our Chef for the event was the amazing Skylar Hanka, owner of Culinary Wildflower. She's an integrative Chef focused on herbal eats and conscious living. I decided a while back that I don't want to champion healthy living one moment and then feed my event guests cheap food, so finding Skylar was a Godsend!

Our Menu Featured:

Watermelon Bites,  Peach & Shrimp Ceviche, Houston Summer Bruschetta, Chicken Curry, & Lavender Kefir Fizz & a Summer Hibiscus Cooler

It's easy to be reminded why they call it culinary art when looking at our dessert table. Nena's Sinfully Sweet Treats created these beautiful pies and also served peach cobbler at the event.

Guests also enjoyed our unicorn conchas and these stunning succulent mini cupcakes by Flora Cocina.

HTX Nitrocreamery delighted guests with his Dragon Kisses which gives the appearance of blowing smoke which was a real crowd pleaser.

I might have been a little selfish is selecting our alcohol sponsor. It's rare to find a bourbon or whiskey cocktail at many of the events that I attend since vodka and tequila always seem to get the spotlight, but for once my beloved dark liquor was going to have its day. Woodford Reserve sponsored our cocktails for the night. They provided their premium brand of small-batch Kentucky bourbon that makes an amazing cocktail when mixed with lemonade.

Dry Soda Company was not only our sparkling water sponsor for the 3rd year in a row, they also provided our guests with a can of their newly launched Dry ZERO Sugar soda.

Arrica Afton, creative extraordinaire designed our chalk wall, hanging floral arrangements, and the colorful cascading art installation that hung in the center of the room. Arrica was also a vendor for her brand Vintage Atelier. She is a designer, wardrobe and style designer, and all around artist that I am so thankful to have worked with for this event.

Our uber chic and popular art wall was designed by the husband and wife duo Arts by Aaron. Every single one of their art walls is custom made by hand and skillfully done. MsIndependent was so fortunate to have this gorgeous handmade wall as part of our event, and we highly recommend that you contact Arts by Aaron for your own art wall. Our guests looooved it!

For this event we doubled the number of vendors we typically have for a #GirlsNightOut event. There were just so many great options to choose from we created more space to accept more women in business. Here are just a few below. Click here to see our full list of vendors.

The event also featured art and fashion from local artist Stacey Martin of Gin Martini Designs. If you were there then you definitely remember her fierce models.

The event also featured local artist Mark Deleon that painted this "Strong is Beautiful" piece that is what made me first take notice of his work.

Of course without the support of sponsors like Kelsey-Seybold Clinic none of this would have been possible...or at least not as much fun. :) We were excited to have Kelsey-Seybold at the event offering raffle prizes and getting to know our ladies. This wont be the last you hear from them and MsIndependent.

Guests won a variety of raffle prizes courtesy of Z Gallerie, Que Snaps Productions, S and T's Party Bus, and Comida Salsa. Michelle Cyfra a Beauty Stylist from Nordstrom generously donated a number of beauty samples as raffle prizes and The Stopa Collection Luxurious Foot Care kit for our raffle table.

Our collaborating influencers Nicole of Lipstick and Brunch and Felice and Shanna of Urban Swank got to know some of our attendees and did a huge beauty giveaway for one lucky winner.

We also had a few surprises like the adorable pups from Brew Chew and a few ladies got a chance to hang out "literally" with Republic Yoga Houston.

Of course #GirlsNightOut is all about you, so we had to show some of our favorite moments from the event featuring you, our guests.
