Potente Restaurant Review

reasons to love the season.png

Members of the Houston Food Blogger Collective were invited to be among the first to experience Potente, the latest addition to the Downtown food scene. The sophisticated and upscale Italian restaurant stands side by side with it's sister output, Osso & Kristalla, both owned Houston Astros owner - Jim Crane.

The interior of the restaurant is meant to create the look and feel of a modern Italian villa, including a rather large bar area, a terrace, and three private dining rooms. Personally I loved the little touches of gold throughout the space that extended throughout Potente and the adjoining restaurant Osso & Kristilla.

I thought this was pretty cool, the menus light up when they are opened.

The restaurant was empty with the exception of all the food bloggers that had assembled at the bar with drinks in hand. Our choice of drinks were either a frozen Bellini or a glass of wine. We were among the first to experience dining at Potente, so as you can imagine inviting about 40 food bloggers at once was a tad overwhelming. Allow me to paint the scene... as one plate made its way to one table, another platter goes to the bar, and the pizzas go there, and appetizers go here, all the while bloggers are swarming toward the food like paparizzi. By the time I realized that some new menu item had come out of the kitchen, the food had already been eaten.

I took more photos than I did bites that night, and missed some dishes entirely due to the foodies to food ratio. What I was able to taste was delicious, well seasoned, and curated with imaginative creativity. The chefs at Potente have incredibly impressive resumes and extensive experience. The kitchen is overseen by Executive Chef Michael Parker, and supported by Chef de Cuisine Micah Rideout, and Executive Pastry Chef David Berg. Chef du cuisine Michael Rideout has previous experience at some of my favorite Houston restaurants like Reef and Kuu, and chef David Berg brings his dessert expertise from Tony's restaurant. Here are just a few menu items that you can expect from Potente.

Italian BBQ Shrimp with Giant Couscous

Beef Carpaccio

Black Garlic Balsamic, Crispy Sunchoke Relish, Funghi Di Bosco

Pictured below are mini croissants stuffed with anchovies, red kale with cheese, Caesar Salad, chicken skewers, and Porterhouse steak.

Rigatoni & Fotina Stuffed Meatballs

Here is some of the opulence that you can expect at Osso & Kristalla.

We were also treated to a show and an intense cocktail that is packed it tremendous bite. It was super strong and spicy, but somehow it hurt so good going down that I actually finished the entire glass. My sinuses thanked me.

Overall I really enjoyed the restaurant, the food, ambiance,  everything. I only wish that I had been able to sample more of the food that was offered, but all in all this was a great experience. I would recommend this restaurant for a date night, a girls night out, and any occasion where you want to get dressed up and treat yourself. Thanks Potente, I will definitely be back.
