Soul Survivor

About two weeks ago SoulCycle and Target teamed to bring the NY based cycling workout to 10 cities across the country. Of course Houston was on the list, and I got the chance to finally take the much hyped cycling class that had Oprah, among so many others, talking. Classes include inspirational coaching, heart throbbing beats, and a total body workout.

The classes were held in an art gallery in the Galleria area that had been converted into a pop up studio just for the event. I found the building hard to find and just decided to follow all the other people in workout clothes frantically circling the Galleria trying to find the place. By the time I got there hoards of people were trying to sign their waivers, get their cycling shoes, and find their assigned bikes. It was a tad bit chaotic, and then there were the people that were hanging out just hoping to make it off the waitlist. Definitely too much excitement for me first thing in the morning, but it woke my ass up and got me ready to work.

Everyone there seemed to have some sort of cycling experience. We rode together, we stayed together and on beat, and no one needed to tap out and leave early. The instructor and even more so the music can make or break a class for me. Our instructor was upbeat, getting off the bike to keep us motivated, and the music was A-MAZ-ING! I couldn't wait to get home and download those tracks. Lord knows good cardio can't happen without a good playlist.

I found out that my cardiovascular endurance sucks, but that's why I do things like this. Cycling classes have such a sense of community, and that keeps me moving to stay with the "pack". It felt amazing to be drenched in sweat, heart pounding, and straddling that line between invigorated and having a near death experience, but that's why I love it.

After the class we were treated to Suja juice, Kind bars, Smart Water, and a free pass for one class at the new studio that is opening in Houston. To get more info about the opening visit Soul Cycle online or follow the @soulcycle.
