#GirlsNightOut September Edition Review
When you get out as much as I do you're no stranger to a good party, and a few not so good ones. For four years I had a running list of must haves and "wouldn't it be cool if" ideas based on all the events that I had attended. FINALLY this year in April my ideas materialized and became what is now known as #GirlsNightOut. Despite the plethora of challenges that inherently come with doing anything for the first time, the event in April was such a huge success that MsIndependent hosted our second #GirlsNightOut event in September. A portion of ticket sales went to benefit our chosen nonprofit, the Houston Area Women's Center. Here's how it all went down.
Our first #GNO event was held at the luxurious SkyHouse River Oaks, so we had high expectation for our second location. We were looking for a unique yet picturesque venue and found all that and more at Republic Square. The former ExxonMobil campus is now a mixed-used district in the energy corridor, and we had the privilege of being the very first to host an event in the newly reopened space. The property is hidden yet sits on approximately 35-acres of land. The venue consists of mostly offices, conference rooms and bullpens, with a scenic outdoor setting of trees, lakes, and walking/bike trails. It's easy to see why we had to have our event here.
What's a good party without a little eye candy? #GirlsNightOut may just be getting started but we are definitely going to keep things interesting with plenty of fascinating, beautiful, and share-worthy things to see. Our male models are becoming a real crowd pleaser ( I wonder why), and this time around we added a roaming performer that juggled and gave us a great night time hula hooping performance. Our models were not only easy on the eyes but they were so nice, hilarious, and were good sports about frequently forgetting the proper names of the food they were serving.... as if anyone noticed.
Our guests were lead to the building along a path of balloons where they were then greeted by our MsIndependent Floral Wall for photo oops. Melina of Paper Events by MeliD is the imaginative and talented creator of this super cute floral backdrop. Our big ass GNO balloons are thanks to Big Ass Balloons. I died a little inside when we had to pop them at the end of the night. They were soooo adorable.
Setting the Mood
For the first #GNO we hired an amazing DJ that just so happened to be a woman, so we figured that we would keep the girl power going and find another female DJ for our second event. DJ Gracie Chavez customized a girls night out playlist for us and set the mood for a good time. We also gave you hardworking ladies a much deserved break with complimentary chair massages offered by WWAM Mobile Massage.
The event was catered by Phoenicia Specialty Foods, a favorite of MsIndependent and host of one of our previous Tour, Tasting, and Brunch events. Guests were offered the Olive Tapenade Crostinis, Mini Tomato and Goat Cheese Tarte, and an assortment of Mini Pies filed with chicken, beef, or spinach. For dessert we went with donut holes trees from River Oak Donuts and caramel apples sponsored by Sweet Gourmet.
Putting together a successful event takes a lot of work and a lot of resources. I never take for granted the wonderful people that put their faith in MsIndependent and all that we do, so a big thanks to all these wonderful sponsors.

MsIndependent has always been all about bringing women together to achieve success, friendship, and escape, which is what makes #GirlsNightOut so rewarding. All the hard work is worth it when I see all the smiling faces and hear the chatter and laughter over the music. Our next GNO event is scheduled for the spring of 2017. We can't wait for you to see what we come up with next. Leave your comments and suggestions on what you'd like to see at the next #GirlsNightOut in the comments below.
