Entrepreneur Talk 101
I do love a good girls night out, and this evening with the girls was a special kind of affair. A panel of Houston's lifestyle bloggers and entrepreneurs gathered together to discuss their unique paths to starting their businesses, and all the bumps along the way. A few topics discussed where branding, marketing, building an audience, how to be profitable, building a team, and protecting your brand. Here is the roster of the ladies that participated in the forum.
Panelist: Elly Brown, Uptownwithellybrown
Nicole Kestenbaum, Lipstick and Brunch
Rongrong Devoe, Rongrong DeVoe Illustration
Candace Chang, Dolce Delights by Candace Chang
Organizer: Natasha Dadwani, Burdlife
I've been following Nicole's blog Lipstick and Brunch for about a year now, and simply love her content and energy. She got her start in 2006 working in the magazine/newspaper industry as a beauty writer and photographer in her hometown of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. A few short years after moving to Houston and starting her blog she has had the privileged of working with notable PR agencies and brands like IT Cosmetics, Bumble and Bumble, Maybelline and Biore.
Favorite Quotes from Nicole: "You have to be consistent because you are a brand."
Rongrong of Rongrong DeVoe Illustration is becoming my new favorite person in Houston. I met her about 2 months ago when I walked into a WildBloom boutique and spotted a mug I had been eyeing on Instagram for a while. That's when RongRong walks up to me and announces that she is the designer! She is a fashion illustrator, born in China, trained in NY and a recent transplant to Houston. Her fashion illustrations have been featured in Vogue, InStyle and Buzz Feed to name a few. I have a few prints, bags, and mugs from RongRong's ever expanding collection of fashionable art, which can be found on her online shop on Etsy.
Favorite Quote From RongRong: " I have to strongly recommend myself because no one else will do it."
Elly of Uptown with Elly Brown, is a lifestyle blogger that aims to create content to uplift and encourage every woman at any age and any stage of life. She was awarded "Best Lifestyle blog" by Houston Fashion Bloggers, and has reached a not so small milestone of reaching 10K+ followers on Instagram within a year. She also has one of the toughest jobs out there, being a mom to her two young boys.
Favorite Quote from Elly Brown: "Don't work for free."
The night was filled with great content and proven methods of expanding and managing a business. Any blogger or business owner knows that no two days look alike and there will be times when you wonder why you're even doing what you're doing. The struggle is real but so is the triumph, the highs, the bliss, and the dream. I love that each and every one of these ladies was so willing to be candid in sharing what they know, in the spirit of embracing women and not competing with them. I scribbled tones of notes, some I will implement, some I will use for inspiration, but most of all I am ecstatic to see women in our community pouring themselves into projects with purpose that uplift the next woman, who will uplift the next, so that we can all be bosses over our lives, communities, families, and ourselves. Who runs the world?.....do you even have to ask. :)
